PLEASE EXCUSE THE PAW DUST AS WE UPDATE
1980, acquiring our foundation show quality female in 1983 - a beautiful standard smooth red from Canadian breeders Carol and Uffe Braae ("Braaehaus"). We are grateful to the Braae's for CH. Braaehaus Going Great, lovingly known to us as Annie B. We have had longhair and wirehair Dachshunds, but currently we only have smooth standards.
OUR INVOLVEMENT with breed conformation competition evolved to include Dachshund Field Trials and Earthdog events. Both of these are great events - to see our Dachshunds do what they were bred to do. If you have not tried field or earthdog events with your dachshund, you should! Your dachshund will love it!
INVOLVEMENT AND SUPPORT OF OUR BREED CLUBS is very important. We are active with our national parent club, The Dachshund Club of America, Inc. (http://www.dachshundclubofamerica.org), as well as local Dachshund clubs, Sierra Dachshund Breeders Club of Los Angeles Co. ( https://www.sierra-dachshund-breeders-club.org), Dachshund Club of Santa Ana Valley ( http://www.dcsav.org ). Jan served on the DCA Board for 11 years and also holds positions with both SDBC and DCSAV clubs.
OUR BREEDING PROGRAM is focused on breed type-conformation, temperament, function and health - all in accordance with the AKC Dachshund Standard. With a limited breeding program focused on quality, not quantity, we had litters only every two - four years, keeping what we felt would benefit our breeding program. Currently, we no longer breed but many of our dogs can be found in other breeders dog's pedigrees. We're happy to assist with referrals to other responsible dachshund breeders.
Not every dog is meant to be a 'show dog', but every dog deserves to be a great family companion! We promote responsible ownership encouraging basic obedience training (this helps build a bond between you and your dog) and may lead to finding a new 'sport' in obedience or other performance work (field, tracking, agility and/or rally). Puppies placed as a family companion, spay and neuter is mandatory unless the puppy is going to be shown.
LOOKING FOR A DACHSHUND? We suggest checking with Breeder Referral Chair - please refer to club website: SDBC ( https://www.sierra-dachshund-breeders-club.org). If you live outside of California we suggest contacting the DCA Breeder Referral Chair at lorindol@roadrunner.com. Please feel free to email me at darshandachs@aol.com with any questions.
